The Eclipse

The Total Eclipse of April 8, 2024 will run its way through Mexico, across the continental United States, and make its way across Canada. Southern Illinois is amongst the best places to witness this rare wonder of the natural world.

Come to Greenville and Centralia, Illinois to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event, and support some great public libraries at the same time.

What Are The Stages of the Eclipse?

Partial Eclipse Begins

The shadow of the moon begins to cover the Sun

Totality Begins

2:01 PM

As the moon fully covers the Sun, the day will temporarily turn to night and the Sun's corona will be visible

Totality Ends

2:04 PM

As the moon's shadow will pass over, and the day begins again.

Partial Eclipse Ends

3:18 PM

The moon clears the Sun's disk and the eclipse fully ends.
